For 10 years every winter, I have been in Central America in search of THE SPOT of fishing in Panama which will allow us, when the cold comes in France, to share an outstanding tropical fishing. Back in time I have been travelling all over Central America in countries such as the Costa Rica, the Nicaragua, the Colombia and the Panama to discover the most fruitful fishing spots.

After many, travels, and fishing experiences all over central America I finally found the perfect fishing spot in Panama on the paradisiacal Island Contadora located in the archipelago of Las Perlas. It is there, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, some 70 km off the coast of Panama City, that I will from now on put my suitcases down, every year between October 1st and the end of July, with the ambition to welcome you in this magical place: the island of CONTADORA.

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Panama-fishing.fr decided to move to the private island of Viveros, located in the heart of the Las Perlas archipelago. A superb architect-designed villa, tastefully built and decorated by Sylvie and Pascal CHEURLIN, offering a dreamlike view of the Pacific. Outside, a 10,000m2 tropical garden is planted with mango and lemon trees, which produce wonderful fruit in season, never chemically treated.

The area is extraordinarily rich in fish, and the fact that the Panamanian government has banned the use of nets longer than 50 m and long liners, even for pros, contributes greatly to this situation.
On the American model, sport fishing is recognized here as an economic activity in its own right. For example, it is formally forbidden to kill a rostrum fish, and fishing for marlin and other sailfish is carried out on a no-kill basis.
The species most frequently encountered are the following:
Carangues, of which 5 species are very common: the Pompano, the Blue Carangue, the Big-eyed Carangue, the Permit and the most common, the Yellow Carangue (Caranx Caninus), which can weigh up to 15kg and whose fighting power is unspeakable: this fish won’t let go of anything.

A near-world-record roosterfish caught by a junior angler on surface water in Panama!
At the end of July 2022, 14-year-old Ruby Tay Cruickshank from England caught this huge 63-pound (28.5 kg) roosterfish in the Las Perlas Islands with a Feed Popper 150, Tenryu Diablo rod and reel filled with 45-pound braid. The fight lasted 31 minutes. The fish was released by fishing guide Charles-Henri Canto (www.panama-fishing.fr). This rooster weighed only 5 pounds less than the IGFA Junior women’s record !

This is the real plus of the organization.

The rods are supplied on site, but nothing prevents you from bringing your own equipment. In the event of breakage of a loaned rod, a contribution to costs of 250 euros will be requested.
